- Lamellar Corpuscles (Pacinian corpuscles) are mechanoreceptors containing nerve endings and are located in the dermis.
- They only react to sudden disturbances, allowing us to sense vibration and for example do distinguish a smooth from a rough surface.
- Structurally speaking, they consist a capsule (free nerve ending, modified Schwann Cells and flat Epithelial cells) surrounding by layers of fibroblasts + connective tissue in an “onion peel” fashion, but with 50 layers ! Each layer is separated by viscous water.
