Ruffini’s corpuscules (structure)

  • Ruffini’s corpuscules are also known as bulbous corpuscle
  • These structures are receptors which are sensitive to stretch.
  • They are located in the deeper dermis and are numerous in the limb extremities such as the fingers.
  • They allow us to have an idea of positioning when doing a movement when moving away to the resting position – for example when the finger is bent to as when it is in a straight (resting) position.
  • They are also important for grip and are very sensitive to the movement (slippage) of object (they are very dense in the area of the fingernails)
