- Recently Pierced ears (or other body areas) have an increased risk of becoming infected
- The following video by the American Academy shows how to take care of pierced ears:
- Wash hands before touching the area
- Leave the earrings in your ears for 6 weeks, even at night
- Wash ears with soap and water at least once a day
- Twist earrings a few times a day to keep the hole open.
- Put alcohol around the piercing twice a day (to prevent germs and scabbing).
- Apply petroleum jelly around the ears (also prevents infection)
- If pain, swelling, redness appears or if liquid is discharged from the ears see a dermatologist.
