Elastic fibers (structure)

  • Elastic fibers give to the skin its flexibility and is the main component is elastin.
  • Elastic fibers the possibility to return back in shape after it has been pressed, pulled, stretch, twisted.
  • It is deposited in the dermis and is produced (and degraded) by fibroblasts.
  • Elastic fibers are not normally visible but histological stains are available.
