- Diaper rash is a condition which can happen with prolonged contact with urines and feces. It is quite frequent but it becomes scary when you start to notice ulcerations in the child’s irritated skin.
- This video by the American Academy of Dermatology gives the following advice:
- Preventing a diaper rash from becoming more severe:
- Change diapers as soon as dirty
- Wash the skin with a wet cloth free from alcohol and fragrance. If the rash is severe, simply use spray water to clean the area and allow it to air dry
- Let the child go diaper free as long as possible
- Apply zinc oxide if the skin remains red (no need to remove the cream between diaper changes)
- When to see a dermatologist: when signs of infection are present (fever, blistering, pus, pain, the rash does not go away after a few days of treatment)
