Diaper rash is a condition which can happen with prolonged contact with urines and feces. It is quite frequent but it becomes scary when you start to notice ulcerations in the child’s irritated skin.
This video by the American Academy of Dermatology gives the following advice:
Preventing a diaper rash from becoming more severe:
Change diapers as soon as dirty
Wash the skin with a wet cloth free from alcohol and fragrance. If the rash is severe, simply use spray water to clean the area and allow it to air dry
Let the child go diaper free as long as possible
Apply zinc oxide if the skin remains red (no need to remove the cream between diaper changes)
When to see a dermatologist: when signs of infection are present (fever, blistering, pus, pain, the rash does not go away after a few days of treatment)
