Catching a sunburn happens, whether on a sun-seeking holiday, in the mountains or staying a bit too long in the sun.
This video by the American Academy of Dermatology recommends the following:
Get away from the sun, and go indoors
Take frequent cool baths or shower. When getting out, pat the skin dry and leave a little water and apply a moisturizer (moisturiser) (aloe vera and soy can soothe)
If some areas still are painful, apply hydrocortisone cream (can be obtained without a prescription)
An anti-inflammatory drug can offer some additional relief and reduce the selling (aspire, ibuprofen)
DO NOT treat a sunburn with anesthetic sprays
Drink plenty of fluids
In case of shivering, fever, headaches or other systemic symptoms which can arise from an extensive involved surface, seek medical advice immediately
Allow blisters to heal naturally.
While recovering, refrain from exposing the skin to the sun (tightly woven fabrics work best)
