- Catching a sunburn happens, whether on a sun-seeking holiday, in the mountains or staying a bit too long in the sun.
- This video by the American Academy of Dermatology recommends the following:
- Get away from the sun, and go indoors
- Take frequent cool baths or shower. When getting out, pat the skin dry and leave a little water and apply a moisturizer (moisturiser) (aloe vera and soy can soothe)
- If some areas still are painful, apply hydrocortisone cream (can be obtained without a prescription)
- An anti-inflammatory drug can offer some additional relief and reduce the selling (aspire, ibuprofen)
- DO NOT treat a sunburn with anesthetic sprays
- Drink plenty of fluids
- In case of shivering, fever, headaches or other systemic symptoms which can arise from an extensive involved surface, seek medical advice immediately
- Allow blisters to heal naturally.
- While recovering, refrain from exposing the skin to the sun (tightly woven fabrics work best)
