Julia: Seborrheic Dermatitis (Face) and Psoriasis (Scalp) (Chapter 5; Case Study)

Seborrheic dermatitis is an eruption which appears on the face as redness and scaling on the face and chest. When it affects the scalp, it causes common dandruff. It is associated with the presence of a yeast, and the more severe the skin condition, the higher the number of yeast. Antifungal treatment reduecs the severity of lesions, but this treatment is symptomatic and when it is stopped, lesions reappear….Typical  flare ups occur (in our experience when there is an increased RELATIVE (not absolute) humidity).

Antidepressant treatment has been effective in more than 50 patients attending the consultation in Saint Louis Hospital – Paris, France

-However, this chapter focuses on treatment through Psychotherapy inspired from Psychoanalysis. Julia is a 52 year old woman who has had Psoriasis of the Scalp and Seborrheic Dermatitis for 30 years.
Dream after Dream – Psychoanalysis will reveal to be like bathing her skin in rejuvenating water, and this shows its usefulness when more than one skin condition is present.
