Leung Chun Ying (梁振英) and Age Spots (Sunspots)

Leung Chun-Ying (b1954) is the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China. He has been in this position since 2012.

-On photographs, pigmented well delimited macules can be seen on the temple areas.
-It is difficult to say if the lesions are elevated or if they have a “stuck-on” appearance.

-Therefore the first diagnosis would be solar lentigo and the second would be seborrheic keratosis.
-However both lesions are probably the same entity as when looking under a microscope solar lentigines are early reticulate seborrheic keratosis.
-Clinically solar lentigo evolve into seborrheic keratosis.

-The term “Age Spot” is an attention catcher but in fact a misnomer. Indeed SK is present in younger people in countries with more UV (B and C) exposure. Yeatman (1997) compares the prevalence of SK in his study group of patients under the age of forty in Australia with a comparable group in the United Kingdom {Memon, 1995}.  He found that 18,2% of males and 32% of females in the Australian group group had SK.
-The correct term would therefore be “Sunspot”
