Reduce Fat Under the Chin with Cryolipolysis ?

-With the passing of time the skin becomes more lax and fat accumulation tends to occur under the chin (Submental adipose tissue).
Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive method of fat removal (see below for description)
-A hand piece has been developed and tried in this study for the treatment of submental fat.

What is cryolipolysis ?
-Cryolipolysis is a medical treatment used to destroy fat cells (fat freezing). Its principle relies on controlled cooling to near 4 Celsius for the non-invasive localized reduction of fat deposits in order to reshape body contours. The exposure to cooling is set so that it causes cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue without apparent damage to the overlying skin. The procedure is billed as a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction.
Side effects are Transient: local redness, bruising and numbness (non permanent).
-A Treatment session consists of application of the device 45–60 minutes per site

Study (Brazil)
Methods: 15 patients with more than 1cm of sub mental fat (as measured by caliper), 2 treatment sessions of 45-55 minutes duration spaced by 10-12 weeks, evaluation of results at baseline and after the LAST treatments (photography, caliper, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Results: a significant reduction visible on photographs, imaging and measurements on MRI; Side effects were non permanent  and resolved completely 10 days after the treatment

Comments
-Fat accumulation responds slightly to cryolipolysis but not to sagging skin.
-However the method has the advantage of being non-invasive and has a high safety / efficacy ratio.
-No conflicts of interest declared
