Rosacea in individuals with skin of color

  • is less common in patients with  skin of color
  • stage one disease is undereported as erythema and flushing masked by the pigmentation
  • 4% of patients with rosacea are African Americans, Hispanics, Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian…
  • On the other hand granulomatous rosacea is more common in patients of color
  • the issue is also Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) induced by the inflammatory lesions.

 

 

Proposed standard treatment for rosacea in patients with skin of color

  • oral doxycycline 40mg daily
  • topical metronidazole
  • topical azelaic acid
