Ruffini’s corpuscules are also known as bulbous corpuscle
These structures are receptors which are sensitive to stretch.
They are located in the deeper dermis and are numerous in the limb extremities such as the fingers.
They allow us to have an idea of positioning when doing a movement when moving away to the resting position – for example when the finger is bent to as when it is in a straight (resting) position.
They are also important for grip and are very sensitive to the movement (slippage) of object (they are very dense in the area of the fingernails)
