The Adipocyte (cell)

  • The Adipocyte: This is the classical “fat cell” (lipocyte).
  • Adipocytes are the main component of the Subcutaneous Layer.
  • Adipocytes in white fat are composed of a unique lipid droplet in the cytoplasm with a nucleus pushed to the periphery of the cell.
  • Adipocytes in brown fat are composed of numerous lipid droplets. Brown fat is the fat in babies (Baby fat) and generates heat thanks to numerous mitochondria which also give the color
