Francine: Diffuse Hair Loss (Chapter 5; Case Study)

-Physicians are often faced with a complaint of hair loss and sometimes hair loss is difficult to ascertain. Hair pull test is done as well as search for scarring.
-Blood tests are then done and when everything is normal it becomes difficult to manage some patients.

Case
-This is a 42 year old woman complaining of diffuse hair loss.
-Physical examination doesn’t show any hair reduction on the vertex (as determined by Ludwig’s scale)
-Hair loss becomes the projection of a psychological problem which is explored through dreams and free associations of them…over a period of 8 years. Why did it fail ?
